I was super excited when I found this Horizon Mac and Cheese on the shelf at Kroger. I am into Horizon chocolate milk and I’ve heard good things about their other products, so I thought their mac and cheese would be a fun one to try! They actually do have quite a few to choose from. My local Kroger had classic cheddar mac, cow shaped mac and a white cheddar shell mac and cheese, which is what I decided to try.
Horizon Mac and Cheese Review:
Sauce: I was a little hesitant about the really fine sauce powder with the shell pasta because sometimes it doesn’t mix very well. This mixed up perfectly and the sauce really stuck to the pasta, rather than just a soupy mess that you have to wait to thicken.
Pasta: Can I just say how much I love shell pasta for mac and cheese? I just love it! Lately, I’ve been making my homemade macs with shells and the fact that this box used shell pasta definitely had a hand in why I decided to try it.
Overall: I think this is a decent mac and cheese. It definitely has a more ‘real’ flavor than blue box and some of the other brands, but it’s still not my favorite organic mac and cheese. It doesn’t have as much flavor as I was hoping, but the pasta and sauce cooked and mixed really well and it was an enjoyable lunch!
Would I eat this again? Probably not. It didn’t stand out to me as something I would crave again, but I would consider trying the other flavors.
