Summer has arrived and we are hitting the grill pretty often these days. Our girls love protein, so we are constantly rotating steak, chicken, and pork chops on the grill. They’re still not big fans of veggies, but Ben and I love to have a piece of grilled meat along with some grilled veggies and one of our favorites is this grilled asparagus!
What You Need for Grilled Asparagus
You don’t need much! The only ingredients you need for grilled asparagus are:
- Asparagus: I use one bunch and it feeds 3-4 people or provides leftovers for 2.
- Olive Oil: To keep the asparagus from sticking to the grill, I toss it in olive oil before cooking.
- Salt & Pepper: I keep the seasonings very simple for grilled asparagus. Salt and pepper to your taste. You could also use some red pepper flakes if you like a little kick!
How to Make Grilled Asparagus
This is one of the easiest recipes you’ll ever make. Just take a bunch of asparagus, cut off the rough ends, coat with olive oil, salt, and pepper — and grill. That’s it! Super easy, right?
I like our asparagus to be pretty charred. We grill asparagus for about 2 minutes on one side and then turn it and grill it for another 2 minutes. You can do it more or less, depending on how done and charred you like your veggies to be.
The Right Size Asparagus for the Grill
I normally really like asparagus in all shapes and sizes. Thin asparagus cooks so quickly and is delicious, but for the grill, I prefer to use thicker asparagus so it can stand up to the heat.
Cookware Needed
The only cookware I recommend for this recipe is a good pair of tongs. Use metal tongs when cooking on the grill. They’re made for higher heat and can stand the flames. I also recommend using longer tongs so your hands don’t get too hot while flipping the asparagus since you have to flip a lot!
What to Serve with Asparagus
This is a really versatile vegetable recipe and it’s also very easy. It pairs with a lot of proteins and some of our favorites are:
- Grilled chicken
- Smoked brisket
- Grilled steak
- BBQ pork chops
- Tossed in a steak salad
- A simple lemon and olive oil pasta
