Do you ever just have an urge to bake? Just to dig through your cupboards and find SOMETHING you can pop in the oven? I had that urge recently. And what resulted were these gooey, dark chocolate brownies. Oh yeah, and they had a caramel sauce topping. With pretzels. And sea salt. Sometimes I just love when I get that baking urge and have to go ahead and pat myself on the back.
Ingredients:
13 x 9 size brownie mix (I used Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate)
3/4 cup white chocolate chips
1/2 cup pretzels
1 packed cup brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
4 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Coarsely ground sea salt
Mix the brownie batter together according to the package directions. I actually always add a little extra vegetable oil (1/8 cup extra) to my brownie mix because I like them to be ooey gooey!
Add your white chocolate chips to the batter and mix to incorporate. Pour into a greased 13 x 9 baking dish.
Top with a layer of pretzels and then bake according to package instructions.
In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter and milk.
Bring to a simmer on medium heat, stirring constantly. It will begin to simmer and foam and will thicken to a sauce-like consistency.
Once it reaches the consistency you like, let it cool completely. Once cooled, you can place in the fridge to make it an even thicker consistency.
After your brownies have baked and are also cooled completely, pour the caramel sauce mixture over top of them.
Cut, top with another pretzel and some coarse sea salt and enjoy!
My mouth is watering. Can I please come make goodies with you sometime? :)) I’m really good at licking the bowl. ha!
Thanks so much for this recipe!!! I just took these out of the oven and they are better than I could have imagined. As a side note, I’m not a huge white chocolate fan, so I used peanut butter chips instead. Now if I can just keep myself from eating the whole pan …… :)
You have to tell me how it is with the peanut butter instead of white chocolate! I have a feeling they are going to be tasty! :)
YES! You are more than welcome to come over and make snacks with me any time!
