Michigan Cherries + Vodka Lemonade

Homemade Cherry Lemonade

So I promised another recipe with my Michigan cherries and now it is time to deliver! I’ve mentioned before that I am a sucker for vodka lemonades. This time, I thought it might be fun to mix it up and add a little cherry juice.

While I was making this Cherry BBQ Sauce, I had another pot going to make this cherry juice. The recipe is simple:

Cherry Vodka Lemonade Recipe:

2 cups chopped and pitted cherries
1 cup water
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 lemon – Juiced

Preparation:

Add cherries and water to a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Add the sugar and continue to simmer on medium-high heat for 20 minutes. Remove the pan from heat and use a potato masher to mash the cherries as much as possible.

Use a hand strainer and a spoon to press all of the cherry juice into a cup. I then added the juice of a lemon to my cherry juice because well, it just seemed too sweet and I like a tart lemon drink. I used pre-made lemonade this time, but you can find my Homemade Lemonade recipe here.

The cocktail:

Fill a glass with ice
Add 2 oz. vodka (Tito’s is the best, thanks Dad!)
Add 4 oz. lemonade
Pour 1 oz. cherry juice on top

Stir and drink. And drink. And go ahead and drink another. It’s summer!
