I. Love. My. Dog. There I said it. I don’t quite think it’s turned into an unhealthy obsession.. yet. But I could be well on my way to borderline psychotic. And no, I don’t care. Just look at this face:
I found Molly at Paws Chicago in September. She was the awkward dog in the middle of the room staring at me while the other dogs jumped on me. I already knew I was looking for the mangiest mutt I could possibly find, but also a sweet dog that wouldn’t make me regret my decision to take care of something other than myself.
She is the PERFECT dog. She loves to play and run and chase squirrels, but also loves to hug and cuddle and be held like a baby. She follows me around and lays on my feet and eats her food one piece at a time so she can throw it up in the air and play with it.
Now, I really don’t CARE what kind of dog Molly is, because I basically think she’s perfect, but I couldn’t help but wonder what types of dogs created such a perfect ball of fluffy cuteness. So, I started Googling terriers in my spare time (or at work… whatever, you know you do it too). Between my obviously impeccable Google skills and random comments from people on the street, I think I narrowed it down to somewhat of a mix between a Jack Russell and a Cairn Terrier. I also found out that that IS a type of dog and it’s called a Jacairn Terrier. They look like this:
As far as looks go, I really think this is a close match. I do see some other traits in her from different terrier breeds, but her personality matches what I’ve read about Jacairn terriers, as well:
- She’s not all that quick at learning, but once she picks something up, she remembers it.
- She has the terrier hunting gene and goes apeshit an time she sees a living creature smaller than she is.
- She is extremely hard to discipline and she seems to think it’s a lot of fun because she just stares at you wagging her tail.
I don’t really think she cares what she is and I’m content with a general idea and the fact that she lets me put antlers on her without trying to claw my face off.

Growing Up With This Gift Is A Real Blessing !
This sounds just like me. I fell in love with buddy the minute I saw his scraggly self. He’s so smart — we love watching him throw his toys and chase them …. He knows the word “walk” and starts jumping up, running in circles. It’s bizarre how he lets me just hold him like a baby. Does yours snuggle up at night? Mine will literally scoot closer if I move away. You’re right — it’s borderline unhealthy but they have such a personality. I was never this much of a dog person … But he’s definitely my baby. :)
YES! Molly is such a snuggler :) She loves to cuddle before bed. She hasn’t quite mastered the word “walk” yet. But if I say “outside”, she goes crazy like yours does!
